Australia's food safety information portal

About Us

The Food Safety Centre (FSC) provides knowledge management and food safety R&D locator services. It does not receive government assistance and is fully self-funded. Through its R&D locator service, members of the Centre are introduced to providers of world-class food safety science and research. The FSC seeks to connect clients with research that:

• is both applied and strategic
• addresses significant industry and consumer concerns
• addresses issues arising on farm, during processing, distribution and storage of food
• considers both microbiological and non-microbiological safety issues

For its members, the FSC also facilitates the ‘marrying’ of research service providers with clients who have specific food safety needs. The FSC has close contact with many teams of internationally renowned scientists with outstanding track records for delivering industry-relevant research outcomes, science leadership and innovation in food safety.

In its this ‘hub’ role, the FSC collaborates with many organisations, including federal and state government research providers, University consulting arms, and private service organisations to enable the evaluation of hazards associated with food at all stages in the food chain.
